Your Will Be Done on Earth As it is in Heaven

By Steven Coffman

Jesus gave us the "The Lords Prayer" as the example of how we should pray. In the second sentence of this prayer is, "your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" Matthew 6:10 (NKJV), and gives us the example of how we should live! In heaven God's will is truly automatic, because in Heaven, all that is in Heaven has only good thoughts, words, actions and deeds. There are no opposing forces of darkness or anything evil that would come against His will. But on earth, evil does truly exist!

Here on earth, we have to always choose "good" and resist against the forces of darkness no matter what. God also gave us "Free Will" as a test for each of us to choose between good or evil in our lives. We personally have to continually refuse to act on our own negative, selfish, and self-defeating thoughts to be in God's favor. God's will is activated in our lives ONLY when we truly make Jesus our Lord and Savior; and then we must also truly choose to come into agreement with His will on a daily basis in our thoughts, our words, our actions, and our deeds. Then, as you follow the Bible and truly declare God's Word, you will be given His strength to overcome all opposition.

The Christian Bible also portrays that we should reflect the character of Jesus. We should have His same attitude and actions. That may sound like a pretty tall order; after all, Jesus was the Son of God. But remember, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we also become the sons and daughters of the Most High God too! We have to invite God into our attitude and actions. Then, as you open your heart to the Word of God, and His will to be done in your life, you will be empowered by your union with Him.

When Jesus walked the earth, what was His character and thoughts to portray how should we act?

Philippians 2:5-11 (NCV) tells us, "In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus." "Christ himself was like God in everything." "But he did not think that being equal with God was something to be used for his own benefit." "But he gave up this place with God and made himself nothing." "He was born to be a man and became like a servant." "And when he was a living man, he humbled himself and was fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death-death on a cross." "So God raised Him to the highest place." "God made His name greater than every other name so that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus-everyone in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth." "And everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and bring glory to God the Father."

Take the time and choose today to invite Lord to work in you. Read the Christian Bible and follow His examples. As you do, you will reflect God in your words, attitude, and actions, and only bring good to others. You will become empowered by the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, and you will begin to have God's will in your life as it is in heaven. You will then start to reap an abundant harvest of blessings in every area of your life!
