Free at Last

By Gerard Hones

On the Fourth of July each year we celebrate the founding of our country marked by the introduction of a remarkable document; the Declaration of Independence. According to this document we have a God given right to liberty. Are you enjoying the freedom in your life you desire? Consider the following statements about people living here in America; The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Patrick J. Kennedy said, "A staggering 63 percent of Americans say that addiction to alcohol or other drugs has had an impact on them at some point in their lives." According to raderprograms.com; "As many as 25 million more individuals suffer from Binge Eating Disorder." Addiction is a prison; eating disorders are bondage, not liberty.

We have so many fears in our society that we must constantly develop new words to describe them. Maybe you know someone who suffers from Syngenesophobia - Fear of relatives (hopefully not your relatives). How about Anablephobia- Fear of looking up (if you have ever been struck by a chunk of green ice this one is understandable). Fear is a prison that is rampant all around us.

SELAH - CONSIDER THESE WORDS

Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

II Timothy 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

If you are not enjoying your freedom in Christ, today make your Declaration of Independence and determine to stand fast on the promises of God.

Today I declare my independence from all forces of the world that seek to enslave me for God has not given me the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I choose to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made me free. I will continue in God's Word. I will know the truth. God's Truth makes me free.
